HSLI is a school for newcomer multilingual learners. We welcome students who are new to the United States (2 years or less).

Learning English
Our students’ schedules are focused around acquiring English as quickly and strongly as possible, via English Language Arts, English as a New Language, and Strategic Reading classes. We utilize The Writing Revolution methodology in all classes in order to support students in writing and speaking English with mastery and sophistication.
Coursework:
Students take core coursework in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, World Languages, and the Arts. We offer advanced math and science courses and college-level coursework including AP (Advanced Placement) US Government & Politics and AP Spanish. Our students also take college-level courses at Lehman College in a program called College Now. Our elective courses currently include: American Sign Language, Chess, Arabic, Spanish, Visual Art, Photography, Physical Fitness, Climate Change, and more!

Transportation:
By Train: Our school can be accessed via the 2 or 5 subway trains
By Bus: Our school can be accessed via the BX12, BX8, BX39 or BX22 buses
Parking: There is street parking available around the school, which is generally easily found on Mon-Thurs and more challenging (but possible!) with street cleaning on Friday. (While there is a small parking lot, it is currently only available to veteran building staff).
